What is exfoliation and how can exfoliation improve my skin?

Exfoliation refers to any technique that removes cells from the skin surface.  It refreshes the skin’s appearance and stimulates cell renewal. The benefits are dramatic, and, when used with professional guidance, exfoliation can be used to treat a wide variety of skin problems - including acne, hyper pigmentation, premature aging and scarring to name a few.

Do I need to exfoliate my body?

The skin of the body is full of impurities and dead surface cells that you need to remove. Your clothes rub on your skin and increase its roughness; sun exposure generally roughens skin. You should exfoliate your body once or twice a week.

What does SPF stand for?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. The number is determined experimentally indoors by exposing human subjects to a light spectrum meant to mimic noontime sun. Some subjects wear sunscreen and others do not. The amount of light that induces redness in sunscreen-protected skin, divided by the amount of light that induces redness in unprotected skin is the SPF. It is mainly a measure of UVB protection and ranges from 1 to 45 or above.

What can I do about acne breakouts?

Excellent skin care and hygiene are vitally important to remove the excess oils and bacteria that are associated with acne. Always follow a strict regimen of thorough cleansing.  Exfoliate twice a week.  Lifestyle changes can often improve your skin. Try to reduce stress, drink plenty of water and limit your intake of caffeine and cigarettes, which may stimulate the adrenal glands and promote oil production.  Always remember never to pick or squeeze pimples, as you’ll be left with an even bigger blemish and a scar to remember it by!

Why does skin get dryer with age?

The skin has its own natural moisturizing system. As you age, this system performs with diminished capacity, depleting the skin’s ability to retain moisture. With the march of time, the skin barrier gets thinner and thinner and the slow-down of its cellular activity impacts on its capability to attract water molecules and to produce ceramides, which play a crucial role in the skin’s self-hydration mechanism.

Why does my skin feel tight at times?

Your skin may occasionally feel tight when its epidermal water balance is compromised. This can happen for a variety of reasons, the most common of which are: dry atmosphere, over-exposure to the sun, a lack of fluids in your system, stress, tiredness, the use of certain medications, and skin aging.

Should I follow the same moisturizing program throughout the year?

Only if your skin reacts well to the same moisturizer all year round. Skin reaction typically fluctuates according to the changing seasons. The dryness of winter generally calls for richer nourishment, while the skin tends to prefer lighter moisturizing in the summer. We recommend that you use the Bayan rich body cream in the Winter time and switch to the light body cream in the summer months.

I have sensitive skin. Can I use a facial or body exfoliator?

Yes. Make sure you use gentle scrubs only and not too frequently. Once a week for both face and body is sufficient.

Why is it so important to cleanse the skin?

Our lifestyle daily exposes our skin to fumes from car exhausts, fuel oil, and cigarette smoke, as well as heating systems and the stale air of confined spaces. Gaseous polluting substances fix themselves on to the skin and mix with sebum, the residue of make-up and other dirtying elements. These toxins penetrate the epidermis and saturate the skin’s natural anti-oxidant system and disrupt its natural protective and moisturizing capacities. The build-up of dirt, pollution, excess oil and make-up residues are one of the first causes of skin premature aging. A daily and thorough cleansing ritual will help you to delay the signs of aging and keep your skin healthier.

Can I use a body treatment product and then go out into the sun?

Yes. However apply your body product several hours beforehand, remember to use sufficient sun protection and reapply frequently with prolonged sun exposure.

If I am young should I use the products?

If I have a dry and sun damaged skin which product should I use?
